The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation seeks a licensed attorney to serve as tribal Prosecutor. Requirements include at least a year’s experience in criminal law, familiarity with federal Indian law, and a commitment to tribal sovereignty. Duties include prosecution of crimes in the Umatilla Tribal Court, development of tribal policy regarding crime prevention and law enforcement, and representation of the interests of the Confederated Tribes in negotiations with non-tribal law enforcement agencies.

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation is a federally recognized American Indian tribal government. The Umatilla Indian Reservation is located on the upper Umatilla River just outside Pendleton, Oregon and consists of 172,000 acres of high quality wheat growing land, range land, and mountain forest. With over 1,100 employees, the Confederated Tribes is the largest employer in Umatilla County. Pendleton is the county seat of Umatilla County. It is located on Interstate 84 and has regular commercial air service.

The salary range is $59,012 - $79,081 depending upon qualifications. The first review of applications will be on August 27, 2008. Applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled.

Tribal Associate Attorney General

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation seeks a licensed attorney to serve as general legal counsel to the tribe, with a focus on natural resource, cultural resource, pollution control and real property law. Requirements include membership in the Oregon State Bar or ability to qualify for reciprocal membership, although persons awaiting bar exam results are encouraged to apply. Additional requirements include familiarity with federal Indian law and a commitment to tribal sovereignty.
